How much does a loc retwist cost?
Each loc specialist sets their own prices, and your total depends on your hair length and how many locs you have. For current pricing, check with your specialist directly on their booking page: The Loc Doc or Bre.
Do I need a consultation before getting starter locs?
If you're a new client or you're getting starter locs, book a consultation first. Your stylist will check your hair, talk through methods and sizes, and give you an accurate price and time. With The Loc Doc, the consultation fee goes toward your service when you book right after.
What's the difference between starter locs, instant locs, and microlocs?
Starter locs begin as comb coils, two-strand twists, or interlocked sections and mature over time. Instant locs are crocheted so they look fully locked the same day. Microlocs are very small, uniform locs that give you tons of styling options but take longer to install.
How long does a loc appointment take?
Most retwists take around 2 hours. Starter locs usually take 1.5 to 2 hours, while instant locs and microloc installs can run anywhere from 4 to 9 hours depending on length and size. Bring a snack and get comfortable.
Can you fix damaged or thinning locs?
Yes. We repair thinning, breakage, and weak spots, and we do full reconstruction for clients going from freeform to traditional locs or anyone who needs their whole head cleaned up.
How often should I get my locs retwisted?
Most people retwist every 4 to 6 weeks. Retwisting too often can cause thinning at the root, so your stylist will help you find the right schedule for your hair.
